QSA’s are typically student led school-based groups that provide safe and supportive environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning youth and their straight allies. Research has found these types of support groups enhance protective factors for this vulnerable population and help with things such as suicidality, bullying and resilience.
However, these school based groups are not accessible to everyone, particularly youth who are experiencing homelessness and students who are in school settings where QSAs do not exist. The establishment of a CQSA has helped to fill this gap.
Alongside the youth group component, the project has engaged the community at large championed by the philosophy of inclusion and appreciation for sexual and gender minorities and their allies.
In partnership with Boys and Girls Club, The Mat and the Lethbridge Public Library we offer 2 community Queer Straight Alliance groups.
Every 3rd Thursday of the Month QSA
